James Suckling 90 - A crisp and citrusy wine with plenty of depth. A little more freshness at the weighty finish would see a higher score. Drink or hold. Screw cap.
Heidler Gruner Veltliner 'Loess' is a stunning Gruner. One of the best! Ludwig Hiedler is crafting some of the most interesting, texturally compelling wines of the Kamptal region. The estate is a pioneer in ecological winegrowing and only sustainable vineyard practices and organic farming are implemented. The wine is precise and clean with a generous richness that is detailed and refined. Subtly gorgeous floral and fruit aromas and hints of typical yet attractive Gruner fennel and grass with more depth than usual because of the fantastic vintage. Lovely to pair with vegetables, salads and seafood and has an easy "gulpable" 11.5% alcohol. A lovely wine that over delivers!"
This is of an entirely other order than was the somewhat snippy 2014; pretty, transparent, gracious, elegant, even aristocratic. Warmly satisfying and giving.
It’s discreet, light and lentilly this year, with a hint of botrytis in the aromas. Otherwise meadow-y and grainy, crescending into a grippy finish, but overall a sweet-natured demure wine.
Brilliant notes of honey, citrus lime skin, white pepper and minerality jump from the glass and onto the palate. Fresh, vibrant and clean on the long finish.
