Wine Advocate 89 - Composed of 84% Zinfandel with smaller parts of Petite Sirah and Carignan, the 2016 Zinfandel Mendocino offers up crushed blueberries and warm plums with hints of mulberries, dried herbs, damp soil and fruitcake. Full-bodied, rich, chewy and expressive, it has lovely dried berry, spice box and earth expressions with a nice, long finish.
Artezin wines are handcrafted with pure varietal character by focusing on heirloom varieties, being sensitive to their inherent uniqueness and to the terroir in which they grow. Artezin Zinfandel is instantly recognizable as a classic, fruit-forward, Zinny Zin. This signature style offers a full-bodied wine with round tannins and moderate alcohol.
The color is bright crimson red with a violet hue. The aroma is very bright, showing fresh raspberry, boysenberry and pomegranate fruit, followed by classic “zinny” spice of nutmeg, cinnamon and black pepper. The fruit and spice continues on the palate, which is again fresh with hints of blueberry and huckleberry. The texture is round and rich for easy drinking and the tannins add to the lush mouthfeel.
