James Suckling 92 - Bright ripe-strawberry aromas with hints of cedar and spices. Floral. Full body, round and velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. Clean. Why wait?
Wine Front 92 - Light and perfumed with rose and orange peel, sweet spices, red fruit and fresh herbs. Medium bodied, fresh red berries tempered by herb, spice and new leather, tannin is pleasantly rusty, and the finish is clean, refreshing and slightly bitter. Stylish wine. Not trying too hard, and almost certainly more to come.
Vinous - Azelia's 2013 Barolo is a gorgeous, entry-level offering. Orange peel, cinnamon, rose water, herbs, sweet red berries and mint give the 2013 its distinctive, lifted personality. Silky and gracious, the 2013 is super-expressive today. The style is very much built on mid-weight structure and aromatics. This is a terrific introduction to the year.
Impeccably balanced, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba blend together here in sublime fashion. Wonderfully fragrant, the Barolo DOCG deftly combines both power and finesse. Lifted aromatics of sweet, exotic spice and rose with notes of cherry, red currant and fennel. Generous palate weight with supple tannins. This is aged for two years in large casks, no new oak.
