Decanter 94 - The 2013 Barolo Baudana opens with striking, beguiling aromatics. Deep, pliant and sensual on the palate, the 2013 exudes fruit intensity to the point the tannins are nearly buried. Intense savory and mineral notes provide an underpinning of virile intensity that builds into the super-expressive finish. The Baudana is a bit creamier and deeper in texture than the Cerretta.
Cherry and black currant flavors are allied to wild herb, leather, iron and tobacco elements. Abundant sweet fruit forms the core, offsetting the assertive structure. Stays fresh and long on the finish. Best from 2022 through 2042. 200 cases made. (The Wine Spectator)
The 2013 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is powerful, dense and layered. Smoke, tar, licorice, spice, leather and menthol develop in the glass. Deep and intense, but also surprisingly approachable for a Serralunga wine, the 2013 possesses terrific persistence from start to finish. The muscle of Serralunga comes through nicely, but at the same time, the tannins are quite soft and surprisingly welcoming for a young Barolo. (Vinous)
