Critical Acclaim

Wine Advocate 90 - A Mediterranean blend of Zinfandel, Carignan, Alicante Bouchet, Syrah and assorted mixed blacks fermented with native yeasts and aged in primarily neutral containers (15% in new French oak), it is a California version of a high-class Cotes du Rhone. Lots of berry fruit intermixed with lavender, pepper and meaty black cherry and black currant flavors emerge from this satisfying, round, expansive, generous red. An outstanding, killer value that should provide pleasure over the next 1-2 years. If there is a better value in California wine, I would like to know about it.

Shebang is a project of Morgan Twain-Peterson (son of Ravenswood founder Joel Peterson, who grew up in the world of wine in Sonoma, having made wine with his dad at age 5.  In addition to this project, Morgan also produces small amounts of old-vine, heirloom red and white blends, Syrah and Zinfandel under the Bedrock Wine Company label.  Sherman & Hooker is named after the two Civil War generals who founded Bedrock Vineyard in 1854.

NY Times Top 20 under $20, 2017 - Buy by the case! The second label of Morgan Peterson’s Bedrock Wine Co., this flavor-pack old vine Zinfandel blend is really a she-banging deal! The base of the cuvee is old vine Sonoma County Zinfandel, blended with a number of other grapes including Alicante Bouschet, Carignan, Mourvedre and Petit Sirah. This cuvee is all you could ask for in an everyday table red, full of rich fruit layered with earthy spice, exceeding expectations for a wine in the price range.
