Vinous 95 - The 2013 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard is one of the most polished and understated of these wines. Inky blue and purplish fruit, lavender, spice, mint and licorice are all laced together. Despite its considerable flavor intensity, the Bien Nacido is light on its feet, gracious and super-expressive.
Wine Advocate 94 - Another top notch wine from Weintraub is the 2013 Syrah Bien Nacido Vineyard, which saw 15% stems and 20 months in new oak. Sporting classic Bien Nacido notes of liquid blackberries, pepper, herbs and marine-like salinity, this full-bodied, fresh and lively effort has good concentration and a tight, slightly closed feel, all suggesting it will benefit from short term cellaring. Give bottles a few years and drink over the following decade. Drink: 2019-2029.
Wine Enthusiast 92 - Roasted beef, chipped asphalt and black currant conspire for a very deep and brooding but not overly powerful nose on this bottling from winemaker Trey Fletcher. The palate pops with thyme, rosemary, dried flowers and pepper, with the tangy black plum fruit only emerging with patience. Built to last.
On the nose, exotic fragrances of violets, blue fruits and sage. On the palate, its peppery notes are the signature of this stellar vineyard. The lengthy finish will lure you to another glass.
