Bruno Clair Morey St Denis Blanc En la rue de Vergy 2014
Several important critics have rated this Morey-Saint-Denis wine highly: Jeannie Cho Lee gave the 2013 vintage a score of 90.
Juicy ripe greengage and citrus fruit, a certain nutty richness offsets the wonderful racy fresh sicilian lemon fruit, complex chalky limestone notes on the finish. Fermented and aged in foudres and barriques, 20 percent new oak. A chardonnay from Morey St Denis is a rare thing, the vast majority of the commune being planted with Pinot Noir, but it can be exceptional, as this regularly is. A vineyard located just above Bonnes Mares, En la Rue de Vergy is planted on poor, rocky limestone soils and shows a hint of the same mineral quality that Bruno gains from the Corton. This has a seductive palate and a generous richness of fruit.
