Chateau Crabitey 2014

( 1 Review )

Once owned by Franciscan nuns, their former winemaker Christophe Bonnin has taken over as owner of the property since 2008. This is a medium-weight fresh wine at 13.5%abv with lovely fine tannins. An easy early to medium term drinking wine from a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Sauvignon.

A Family Connection

This is a very enjoyable wine; especially at this price. For us, it comes with family memories. My father was raised by the nuns at Crabitey back in the 1930's when it was also an orphanage. He was brought to the US when he was about 12 and raised by his aunt. His story is nothing short of miraculous. We were able to visit the winery in 2015 when we were on a Bordeaux wine cruise. Hired a driver that found the Chateau and the winemaker, Arnaud de Butler was there and gave us a tour. He opened a 2010 Grand Vin, which was excellent. Wish we could order some of that vintage! We've sent some of the wine to dad; at 95 it actually brings back pleasant memories for him too. Glad we found it.
