Domaine Serge Laporte is small family operation with parcels surrounding the village of Sancerre and in Chavignol that has been making wine here for many generations. This comes from the especially rocky Le Rochoy vineyard (in a former life, this parcel was used as a quarry by the Romans) planted to Kimmeridgean marl. Like the 'galets' of Chateauneuf-du-Pape, here the rocks absorb sunlight to keep vines warm at night, promoting ripeness, concentration and the development of intensity and power. At the same time, these mineral-rich, high-draining soils preserve acidity and freshness while leaving a strong mineral impression. This is intense and focused, with zesty citrus aromas and flavors given volume from leesy richness on the midpalate and lifted by a beam of minerals throughout. Serge Laporte is a vigneron to watch.
