Critical Acclaim

International Wine Cellar 98 - Extremely unevolved, reticent nose hints at candied citrus peel, juniper and aromatic spices and herbs, plus a whiff of white truffle. Much more backward and less sweet than the Altenberg, showing its riesling side today (the blend also contains muscat, pinot blanc and sylvaner). This has the structure of a red wine: it's hard to scrape this stuff off one's palate. Opens out like a peacock's tail on the back, showing building sweetness, great lift and tannic spine. This complete wine lingered on my palate for minutes and in my mind for days.

Wine Spectator 90 - Bold, ripe and off-dry, this combines peach, quince and vanilla pastry notes with beeswax and chamomile accents. Open and appealing, it has ample structure embedded in its rich texture.

Complex nose of peaches, and tangerines with hints of spice. An appealing thickness in the mouth. Complex. A wow wine with a very long finish. Goes quite well with spiced Rock Cornish Game Hens cooked on the grill. Marvelous!
