An explosion of complexity, the 2016 Evenstad Reserve Chardonnay bursts with gorgeous aromas of fresh cut pineapple, guava, and melon. Ever changing in the glass, a second layer presents itself with classic chardonnay notes of pronounced apple, pear and brioche. Extremely integrated and harmonious on the palate, bright acidity is met by a rich and full mouthfeel with beautifully pure expressions of citrus and melon. The finish is framed by an elegant minerality that seems to linger for days. This is Oregon Chardonnay at its finest.
Critical Acclaim (2105)
James Suckling 94 - A beautiful and generous white, as always, with sliced baked apple and hints of pie crust, as well as pralines and vanilla flavors. Full body, lots of fruit yet a vivid and brilliant aftertaste buttressed with lively acidity. Drink now.
International Wine Report 94 - Another stunning release from Domaine Serene, the 2015 'Evenstad Reserve' Chardonnay saw 40% new French oak for 13 months prior to bottling. This beautiful wine opens to inviting aromas of brioche toast, nectarine, Pazzaz apple and suggestions of heavy cream. Balanced and poised, yet showing serious mid-palate weight, this possesses a seamless, silky texture laced with flavors of key lime, crème brûlée, toast and orchard fruits which continue to build on the near minute long finish. This is a masterful effort by Domaine Serene and their winemaking team. (Best 2017-2028).
Wine Spectator 93 - Precise and well-structured, with floral lemon and apricot aromas and sleekly complex lime and stony mineral flavors that finish with laser-sharp crispness. Drink now through 2023.
Wine Enthusiast 92 - This is a rich, heavy wine, a Chardonnay on steroids. It's packed with ripe and lush tree fruits, and those flavors are matched with generous barrel toast. Though it feels a bit thick on the palate, it has enough acidity to avoid being flabby and is terrifically delicious. Drink now through 2021.
In 2016, the Wine Spectator bestowed its number two "Wine of the Year" selection onto Oregon's Domaine Serene for the incredible 2014 "Evenstad Reserve" Dundee Hills Chardonnay. Seeing that the top wine of 2016 was the 2013 Lewis Napa Cabernet, the Domaine Serene Chardonnay was in essence the top white wine in the world according to the Wine Spectator. The 2015 edition, while riper than the 2014 from an elongated growing season, is utterly divine. It straddles the line between tropical and cool climate with incredible balance, showcasing creamy textures that are bolstered by acidity and drive.
The art of blending is a hallmark of the Domaine Serene winemaking program and one of the most important steps in making wines of distinct and unique character. Sourcing only the finest Dijon clone grapes from the winery's premier Chardonnay vineyards in the Dundee Hills, the Evenstead Reserve Chardonnay is meticulously blended for balance, personality and consistently superior quality from vintage to vintage.
