Critical Acclaim

Wine Spectator 93 - This is spicy, evoking vanilla, nutmeg and cinnamon notes, with accents of apple and smoky slate. Racy and harmonious, presenting a long, expansive finish.

International Wine Report 92 - The 2015 Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese is a beautiful showing which offers wonderful characteristics of quince and cherry blossoms surrounded by stoney minerals. This Riesling impresses with its gorgeous combination of ripe fruit, minerality and underlying acidity, as it makes it way into the succulent finish. Balanced, classy and elegant, this Riesling is sublime now and should continue to evolve for years to come.

Wine Advocate 91 - The 2015 Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spätlese is clear, piquant and salty on the nose, with great purity and a lovely flintiness framing the ripe yellow apple and grapefruit aromas. On the palate, this is a pretty, complex and salty Spätlese with generous but delicate fruit and lingering mineral tension and salinity. Grown on the same soil as the Leistenberg Kabinett (grey slate) but from a fully south-facing site, this is a perfect Spätlese terroir. Although this wine has just 9% alcohol, it is intense and complex and has 65 grams of residual sugar. It is a really full-bodied Riesling.

The 2015 Kirschheck Spätlese is a classic example in the making, as here the filigree of the vintage is very much in evidence. The nose wafts from the glass in a very pure and classy blend of apple, white cherry, beautiful slate undertow, wild yeasts, bee pollen and a top note of apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure, medium-full and shows lovely inner tension, with a fine girdle of acidity, excellent focus and grip and a long, complex finish. The inherent delicacy of the Kirschheck works perfectly with the style of the vintage.
