Several important critics have rated this Saint-Joseph wine highly: Wine Spectator gave the 2013 vintage a score of 92.
This white Saint-Joseph wine is made from pure Roussanne, from mature rootstock that hails from the walled 4-hectare 'Clos Forentin' vineyard which the Chaves acquired in 2009. Fewer than 400 cases are produced annually and it is popular on export markets, as with many Chave wines. It has lovely almond and acacia flower scents and wonderfully-textured white stone fruit palate with a long, elegant finish.
Wine Spectator 93 - The creamed pear, yellow apple and white peach flavors are layered seamlessly, framed with alluring brioche and salted butter notes, all flowing through the finish in lockstep. Drink now through 2023.
Vinous 92 - Pale yellow-gold. A highly perfumed bouquet evokes mineral-laced candied fig, tangerine, white flowers and toasted nuts, and hints of ginger and beeswax emerge slowly. Penetrating, concentrated and emphatically mineral in character, with juicy acidity enlivening orchard and citrus fruit and lemon curd flavors. Rich but vibrant in style, displaying impressive finishing thrust and strong, mineral-driven persistence.
