Ogier Cote Rotie Le Village 2015

The Ogiers own 10 hectares of well appointed vines in Côte Rôtie, split into no fewer than 35 different parcels. These are picked, vinified and aged separately – before being blended 18 months after harvest. Tasting through the different barrels that make up this “Village” cuvée, we were wowed by the intense perfume of the 2015 wine: an abundance of cherry blossom, violets and dark berries. Full bodied on the palate, textures are seductively satin-like: this is at-once refreshing and mouth-filling. Flavours are concentrated and multifaceted, tannins sweet and fresh. There is an airy quality to this wine too – the finish being energetic and full of finesse (for drinking 2025-2035+).

Critical Acclaim (2014)

Vinous - Bright purple. Blackberry, boysenberry, violet candy and licorice on the deeply perfumed nose and in the mouth. A suave blend of power and vivacity, showing a smoky nuance that builds on the back half. Closes smooth, spicy and very long, offering slow-building tannins and lingering dark fruit liqueur and floral notes.
Range: 91-93

Wine Spectator 92 - Offers a pure, racy feel, with a core of cassis and cherry preserves stretching out over light white pepper, iron and bay leaf notes. Very silky and persistent, showing cut and purity. Best from 2017 through 2024. 1,100 cases made.

Wine Advocate 90 - The entry level release that comes from the younger vines of the estate, the 2014 Cote Rotie Le Village would be a great intro into the wines of Cote Rotie. Perfumed and upfront, with lots of the classic raspberry, black cherry, mint, flowers and olive characteristics common in the region, it has medium-bodied richness, juicy acidity and a forward, deliciously quaffable profile that will make it hard to resist in its youth.
