The 2010 Marques de Gelida Pinot Noir Rose Brut Reserva (100% Pinot Noir) comes from a 46-acre parcel of head-trained Pinot Noir vines planted on limestone soils. The wine’s light salmon color is followed by a perfumed nose of strawberries, cherries and apple skins. Crisp, elegant and light to medium-bodied, it is a dry, pure rose sparkler that should drink well for several years. A sparkling wine bodega owned by six families in Penedes, Vins El Cep has over 470 acres of vines planted at some of the highest elevations of the appellation. Most of the vineyards are cultivated organically, with no fertilization, spraying of herbicides or irrigation. Readers will be shocked by how good these sparklers are, particularly at these price points.
